The Science Society of Government Degree College, Nagrota Surian organized a programme on “National Space Day” on 24 August 2026 to promote awareness and interest among students in space science, scientific innovation, and India’s achievements in space exploration. The event included an informative presentation by Mr. Ashish Bamta (Assistant professor, Mathematics) on the life and contributions of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, highlighting his visionary role in laying the foundation of India’s space programme and his belief in the use of space science and technology for national development. This was followed by an interactive quiz on “space science and India’s space programme”, covering topics related to astronomy, space exploration, Indian space missions, satellites, scientists, and important milestones in India’s space journey. A total of 23 students participated in the quiz. The programme was organized under the guidance and coordination of Dr. Anuragini, AP Priya, and AP Ashish Bamta (Science Society).

 

REPORT ON ONLINE QUIZ COMPETITION

An Online Quiz Competition was organized by the Cultural Committee of Government Degree College, Nagrota Surian, on 26 August 2026 as a part of the Talent Hunt Competition.

The competition witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 21 students from the college. The quiz was conducted online through Google Forms, providing students with an opportunity to test their knowledge in a convenient and interactive manner.

A total of 70 questions were included in the quiz. The questions covered a wide range of subjects, including Himachal Pradesh General Knowledge, Geography, Polity, Economics, History, Literature, and Current Affairs. The competition aimed to assess the general awareness and academic knowledge of the students while also encouraging them to remain updated about important developments at the state, national, and international levels.

The students participated enthusiastically and displayed keen interest throughout the competition. The online format ensured smooth participation and enabled the efficient conduct of the event.

Overall, the quiz competition was successfully organized and served as an excellent platform for students to showcase their knowledge and intellectual abilities. The Cultural Committee appreciated the active participation and enthusiasm of all the students and contributed significantly to making the Talent Hunt Competition a success.

The Commerce Society organized a live telecast of Global Investing Workshop by Economic times and InvestYadna on 22nd August, 2026, to enhance the financial awareness and investment knowledge of students. The workshop aimed to familiarize the participants with various investment opportunities and to promote the importance of financial literacy among young individuals. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from 27 students. The workshop aimed to develop financial awareness among students and provide them with a practical understanding of global investment opportunities, international diversification, asset allocation, investment vehicles, and the regulatory framework governing overseas investments. The session was conducted by Mr. Gaurav Jain, Founder & CEO, InvestYadnya, and Mr. Parimal Ade, Founder, InvestYadnya, who shared their expertise and practical insights from the field of investment and personal finance. During the workshop, students were introduced to the need for global diversification and the limitations of concentrating investments in a single country. The resource persons discussed the role of global assets in financial planning, particularly in relation to foreign education, travel, retirement and other international financial goals. The session also covered asset allocation architecture, correlation between Indian and international assets, and ways of determining international exposure according to an investor’s risk profile. A major component of the workshop focused on various investment vehicles, including global stocks, international ETFs, GIFT City routes, international mutual funds and other avenues for accessing global markets. The speakers also explained important regulatory and compliance aspects, including LRS, TCS, FEMA and DTAA, thereby helping students understand the legal and financial considerations associated with investing outside India. The workshop was highly interactive and provided students with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge from experienced financial professionals. 2. पोस्टर एवं नारा लेखन प्रतियोगिता – 17 अगस्त 2026
17 अगस्त 2026 को महाविद्यालय में पोस्टर एवं नारा लेखन प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया। प्रतियोगिता में महाविद्यालय के 37 विद्यार्थियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया। विद्यार्थियों ने रैगिंग के दुष्परिणामों तथा इसके विरुद्ध जागरूकता से संबंधित ज्ञानवर्धक, रचनात्मक एवं प्रभावशाली पोस्टर एवं नारे प्रस्तुत किए।

3. एंटी-रैगिंग डॉक्यूमेंट्री का प्रदर्शन – 19 अगस्त 2026
19 अगस्त 2026 को एंटी-रैगिंग समिति द्वारा विद्यार्थियों के लिए एंटी-रैगिंग विषय पर एक डॉक्यूमेंट्री का प्रदर्शन किया गया। डॉक्यूमेंट्री के माध्यम से विद्यार्थियों को रैगिंग की परिभाषा, इसके शारीरिक, मानसिक एवं शैक्षणिक दुष्परिणामों तथा रैगिंग से संबंधित कानूनी प्रावधानों के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान की गई।
इस गतिविधि का उद्देश्य विद्यार्थियों को रैगिंग की गंभीरता से अवगत कराना तथा महाविद्यालय परिसर में परस्पर सम्मान एवं सहयोग की भावना को बढ़ावा देना था। इस गतिविधि से 146 विद्यार्थी लाभान्वित हुए।
4. ऑनलाइन एंटी-रैगिंग प्रश्नोत्तरी – 20 अगस्त 2026
20 अगस्त 2026 को विद्यार्थियों के लिए ऑनलाइन एंटी-रैगिंग प्रश्नोत्तरी प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया। प्रश्नोत्तरी का उद्देश्य एंटी-रैगिंग सप्ताह के दौरान आयोजित विभिन्न गतिविधियों से विद्यार्थियों में विकसित जागरूकता का आकलन करना तथा रैगिंग से संबंधित उनके ज्ञान का परीक्षण करना था।
इस प्रतियोगिता में महाविद्यालय के 137 विद्यार्थियों ने भाग लिया।

5. कार्यकारी प्राचार्य का संदेश
इस अवसर पर महाविद्यालय के कार्यकारी प्राचार्य प्रो. अजय कुमार ने कहा कि महाविद्यालय प्रशासन परिसर में रैगिंग-मुक्त वातावरण बनाए रखने के लिए पूर्णतः प्रतिबद्ध है। उन्होंने इस बात पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त की कि महाविद्यालय में अब तक रैगिंग की कोई घटना रिपोर्ट नहीं हुई है।
उन्होंने विद्यार्थियों से भविष्य में भी रैगिंग के प्रति सजग एवं जागरूक रहने तथा महाविद्यालय परिसर में सुरक्षित, सौहार्दपूर्ण, अनुशासित एवं सम्मानजनक वातावरण बनाए रखने में सक्रिय सहयोग देने का आह्वान किया।
कार्यकारी प्राचार्य ने एंटी-रैगिंग समिति को सप्ताह के दौरान विभिन्न कार्यक्रमों के सफल आयोजन के लिए बधाई दी।
6. कार्यक्रम का परिणाम
एंटी-रैगिंग सप्ताह के सफल आयोजन से विद्यार्थियों में रैगिंग के विरुद्ध जागरूकता बढ़ाने के साथ-साथ आपसी सम्मान, अनुशासन, संवेदनशीलता, जिम्मेदारी एवं सौहार्द की भावना को प्रोत्साहन मिला। विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं एवं जागरूकता गतिविधियों के माध्यम से विद्यार्थियों को रैगिंग की रोकथाम में उनकी भूमिका के प्रति भी जागरूक किया गया।
7. निष्कर्ष
एंटी-रैगिंग सप्ताह का आयोजन महाविद्यालय के सुरक्षित, समावेशी एवं सम्मानजनक शैक्षणिक वातावरण के प्रति उसकी प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है। विद्यार्थियों की सक्रिय भागीदारी ने यह स्पष्ट किया कि महाविद्यालय समुदाय रैगिंग के विरुद्ध जागरूक एवं प्रतिबद्ध है। कार्यक्रम ने महाविद्यालय परिसर को निरंतर रैगिंग-मुक्त, सुरक्षित एवं सौहार्दपूर्ण बनाए रखने के संकल्प को और मजबूत किया।

Report on Independence Day Celebration

Government College Nagrota Surian celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm, dignity and patriotic fervor. The college campus resonated with the spirit of nationalism, pride and respect for the nation.

The programme commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony by the Acting Principal, Prof. Ajay Kumar. The teaching faculty, including Prof. Ajay Kumar, Prof. Kaku Ram Manhas, Prof. Parveer Dhiman, Dr. Pushpa Yadav, Dr. Anuragini, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Neha Choudhary, Prof. Yuvraj, Prof. Ashish, Prof. Ranjit, Prof. Abhishek Pal, Prof. Neelkamal and Prof. Priya, along with non-teaching staff members Shri Rajneesh Chand, Shri Rajesh, Kushal Dhiman and Ranjana, were present on the occasion. The college fraternity expressed its respect and devotion to the nation through the singing of the National Song and National Anthem. The sacrifices of the freedom fighters and national heroes were remembered with deep reverence.

The celebration featured a variety of cultural, creative and knowledge-based activities. Students participated enthusiastically in speech competition, patriotic song, patriotic dance, poetry recitation, poster-making and quiz competition. Through their performances, the students highlighted the sacrifices of freedom fighters, national unity and integrity, and their responsibilities towards the nation.

The patriotic songs and dance performances filled the atmosphere with enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. The inspiring speeches and heartfelt poetry recitations further enriched the programme. The quiz competition provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the Indian freedom struggle, Constitution, national symbols and India’s glorious history.

The programme also emphasized that freedom is not merely a right but also a responsibility towards the nation. The college fraternity highlighted the important role of young people in nation-building and stressed the need to strengthen patriotism, discipline, social responsibility and respect for constitutional values among the youth.

The active participation and impressive performances of the students made the celebration lively, meaningful and memorable. The spirit of “Nation First” remained evident throughout the programme. The event was concluded with the singing of the National Song and National Anthem.

30 जुलाई 2026 को राजकीय महाविद्यालय नगरोटा सूरियाँ में राष्ट्रीय सेवा योजना (एनएसएस) इकाई द्वारा विशेष शिविर के माध्यम से स्वच्छता अभियान का सफलतापूर्वक आयोजन किया गया। जिसमें स्वयंसेवकों ने पूरे उत्साह, अनुशासन एवं सेवा-भाव के साथ भाग लिया।

शिविर के दौरान स्वयंसेवकों ने महाविद्यालय परिसर में व्यापक स्वच्छता अभियान चलाया। विद्यार्थियों ने परिसर की साफ-सफाई कर स्वच्छ एवं स्वस्थ वातावरण बनाए रखने का संदेश दिया तथा समाज में स्वच्छता के प्रति जन-जागरूकता फैलाने का संकल्प लिया।




Government Degree College Nagrota Surian organised a One Day Workshop on “Financial Literacy through Mutual Funds” under the joint aegis of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Commerce Society, and IQAC. The programme commenced with a welcome address and the formal felicitation of the dignitaries. Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Principal, presided over the programme, while Dr. H. L. Dhiman, Former Principal of the college, attended as the Special Guest.
The technical session was conducted by Mr. Ankur Sharma, who explained the importance of financial literacy in today’s world. He discussed budgeting, savings, emergency funds, mutual fund investments, SIPs, compounding, diversification, risk-return relationship, and long-term financial planning using practical examples. Students actively participated throughout the session by asking questions related to investment options, financial planning, and wealth creation. The interactive discussion enabled participants to understand the importance of making informed financial decisions and avoiding common misconceptions regarding investments. The programme concluded with an engaging interaction and a formal vote of thanks.

“Nasha Mukt Yuva – Viksit Bharat” (Drug-Free Youth – Developed India) campaign
Government Degree College Nagrota Surian organized an awareness lecture under the “Nasha Mukt Yuva – Viksit Bharat” (Drug-Free Youth – Developed India) campaign with the objective of creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The programme was presided over by the Principal of the college, who urged the students to adopt a drug-free lifestyle and spread awareness against substance abuse in society.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Pradeep K. Kaundal emphasized that:
1. Drug abuse is extremely harmful to an individual’s health, personality, family, and society.
2. Every student should remain completely away from all forms of intoxicating substances.
3. The foundation of success lies in discipline, hard work, positive thinking, and self-confidence—not in substance abuse.
4. Students should also educate their friends and family members about the harmful effects of drug addiction.
5. If someone is suffering from addiction, they should be guided and supported with empathy rather than ridiculed.
6. Sports, yoga, physical exercise, reading, and other constructive activities should become an integral part of daily life.
7. Students should never experiment with drugs due to peer pressure or the influence of social media.
8. Every student should become an aware and responsible citizen who actively spreads the message of a drug-free society.
9. A healthy, educated, and drug-free youth is the greatest strength in building a developed India.
10. All students should sincerely uphold the Anti-Drug Pledge taken today throughout their lives and inspire others to do the same.
On this occasion, an Anti-Drug Pledge Ceremony was also organized in the college. Principal Dr. Pradeep K. Kaundal administered the pledge to all faculty members, staff, and students.
All the participants took the pledge with great sincerity and enthusiasm, resolving to remain free from all forms of substance abuse, never consume intoxicating substances, and actively contribute towards creating awareness for a drug-free family, society, and nation.
The students also pledged to educate people about the ill effects of substance abuse, adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle, and contribute actively as responsible and vigilant citizens towards the realization of a Developed India (Viksit Bharat).
The programme was successfully organized under the joint auspices of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and the Prahari Club (Anti-Drug Cell).

On July 28, 2026, a special lecture on “Career Guidance” was organized at Government College, Nagrota Surian, with the aim of shaping a bright future for students and fostering career awareness. Dr. H.L. Dhiman, former Principal of the college, served as the keynote speaker and guided the students. Approximately 250 students participated in the event with great enthusiasm.
In his lecture, Dr. Dhiman provided detailed information about the various opportunities currently available in government services, the private sector, and self-employment. He encouraged students to choose careers aligned with their interests, aptitudes, and skills; to make effective use of their time; and to move forward with persistent hard work and a positive mindset. He emphasized that the foundation of success lies not merely in talent, but in discipline, determination, and continuous effort.
Citing the struggle-filled life of former US President Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Dhiman noted that despite facing numerous setbacks, Lincoln never gave up and ultimately earned a place among the world’s greatest leaders. Quoting the inspiring words of India’s former President and eminent scientist Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam—”Dreams are not what you see in your sleep; dreams are things which do not let you sleep”—he urged students to set ambitious goals and strive continuously to achieve them.
Concluding the event, the college Principal and chief guest, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Kaundal, remarked that such lectures prove immensely beneficial for students’ personality development and the building of successful careers. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the keynote speaker, Dr. H.L. Dhiman, for delivering an inspiring and enlightening lecture. He also thanked the faculty members and non-teaching staff who assisted in the successful organization of the event, as well as the students who participated with such enthusiasm.

A special lecture on “Mental Health and Wellness” was successfully organized on July 23, 2026, at Government College, Nagrota Surian, with the primary objective of promoting mental health awareness and fostering the holistic development of students. The program aimed to sensitize students about the growing importance of mental well-being in today’s fast-paced and competitive world.
The keynote speaker for the event was Prof. Diksha Chandel (Assistant Professor, Psychology) from Pandit Chandradhar Sharma Guleri Government College, Haripur. In her insightful and engaging session, Prof. Diksha Chandel elaborated on the concept of mental health and emphasized that it is an integral part of overall well-being. She highlighted that maintaining a healthy mind is as crucial as maintaining physical fitness.

During her lecture, she discussed various challenges faced by students such as academic pressure, stress, anxiety, and depression. She emphasized that these issues can be effectively managed through positive thinking, emotional awareness, and a balanced lifestyle. She encouraged students to incorporate practices like yoga, meditation, regular physical activity, and effective time management into their daily routine. She also stressed the importance of open communication, urging students to share their concerns with family members, teachers, or friends rather than suppressing their emotions.

Prof. Diksha Chandel further guided students on recognizing early signs of mental distress and encouraged them to seek professional help without hesitation whenever required. She reassured students that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness, and plays a crucial role in maintaining mental stability.

The lecture witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from students, who attentively engaged with the session and raised queries related to stress management, emotional well-being, and coping strategies. The interactive nature of the session made it highly impactful and informative.

The program concluded on a note of gratitude, with the college community expressing heartfelt thanks to Prof. Diksha Chandel for her valuable insights and guidance. The lecture proved to be a meaningful step towards creating awareness about mental health and encouraging students to prioritize their emotional and psychological well-being.

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Government Degree College Nagrota Surian organized a group viewing of the MIC-Driven Activity titled “Funding Opportunities for Biotech Innovations in HEIs: BIRAC Schemes” on 24 July 2026 in Room No. 307. The programme commenced with a brief introduction to the significance of innovation and entrepreneurship under the guidance of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell.
The live session was delivered by Ms. Taranjeet Kaur, who explained the vision and objectives of BIRAC in supporting biotechnology innovations across Higher Education Institutions. She discussed various funding schemes, eligibility criteria, incubation support, startup grants, and opportunities available to students, researchers, and faculty members. Real-life examples of successful biotechnology startups and innovation projects supported by BIRAC were also shared. The interactive session motivated participants to explore innovative ideas and understand the process of converting research into commercially viable products. Faculty members encouraged students to actively participate in future innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives organized under the Institution’s Innovation Council.

A lecture on Body Literacy and the Menstrual Cycle was successfully conducted at Government Degree College, Nagrota Surian, with the objective of educating and empowering girl students about menstrual health and overall well-being.The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 166 girl students, highlighting the importance and relevance of such awareness programs. The lecture aimed to break myths, address taboos, and promote a healthy understanding of the menstrual cycle and body awareness among young women.The resource person for the event was Dr. Anuragini, who delivered an insightful and informative session. She explained the biological aspects of the menstrual cycle, emphasized the importance of hygiene, nutrition, and emotional well-being, and encouraged students to adopt a positive and informed approach towards their bodies.

The event was also graced by the presence of  Dr. Pushpa and  Prof. Neha  who were part of the programme and supported the initiative. Their presence encouraged students to actively participate and engage in the session.The lecture concluded with an interactive session where students asked questions and clarified their doubts, making the program highly impactful. Such initiatives play a vital role in promoting awareness, confidence, and health education among students.
