Government Degree College, Nagrota Surian celebrated National Sports Day on 29 August 2026 with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player, and aims to promote the importance of sports and physical activities in the holistic development of students.

The celebration was organized to encourage students to actively participate in sports and to inculcate the values of discipline, teamwork, leadership, perseverance, sportsmanship and healthy competition. As part of the celebration, competitions in Chess, Table Tennis and Volleyball were organized. Students participated enthusiastically and displayed commendable dedication, discipline and competitive spirit throughout the events.

The programme highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between academics and physical activities. Students were encouraged to recognize that sports not only improve physical fitness but also enhance mental alertness, concentration, confidence and decision-making abilities.

Chess Competition

The Chess Competition provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their strategic thinking, concentration, patience and analytical abilities. The matches were conducted in a healthy and competitive environment, with participants displaying excellent sportsmanship and respect for their opponents.
